Description:

East Africa, Kenya, Kamba / Akamba, ca. early 20th century CE. A traditionally carved wooden stool supported by four flaring, flat-footed legs. The slightly concave circular seat is richly decorated with inlaid seed beads, arranged in a radiating geometric sunburst pattern composed of triangles and concentric rings. Such stools were not merely functional objects but personalized markers of identity, used by Kamba men at important communal and ceremonial gatherings. In many African cultures, seating communicates status, wisdom, and authority - where and how one sits often reflects social rank. Size: 15" Diameter x 13.5" H (38.1 cm x 34.3 cm)
