Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Piartal Cultural Complex, Highland Narino region, Narino culture, ca. 750 to 1250 CE. The surface is burnished and decorated with dark negative-resist style geometric panels, including crossed linear bands and stacked triangular motifs that wrap the shoulder and body, with additional vertical and X-shaped elements on the neck. Such large amphorae are associated with mortuary contexts in ancient Colombia and are often interpreted as secondary burial urns or ceremonial containers, valued for their bold profile and graphic painted design.
