Description:

Egypt, tIP to Late period, ca. 1000 - 332 BCE. Fine blue-green faience pottery hare amulet, depicting a reclining rabbit on a rectangular plinth base, having long, pulled back, ears, and a finely detailed textured coat. Integral suspension loop behind his ears.

Ancient Egyptian rabbit amulets, typically represent the Cape Hare (Lepus capensis). These small figurines were particularly popular during the Late Period (ca. 664 - 332 B.C.) and were often worn as protective charms or placed in burials to symbolize fertility, alertness, and rebirth. Size: 1.63”L x 1”H (4.1 x 2.5cm).

Provenance: Private Connecticut collection. Ex. Dr. John N. Winnie, Jr. collection, St. Marys, Georgia, 1980’s-1990’s.
