Description:

Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A captivating pair of ancient Roman glass slag fragments, each formed as a byproduct of ancient glassblowing and vessel production. These amorphous forms - accidental relics of the glassmaker's craft - are remnants of molten glass that cooled into freeform shapes, now preserved with shimmering iridescence and rich mineral encrustations from centuries of burial. Time and exposure have lent the surfaces a stunning array of colors - ranging from metallic silvers and purples to deep oceanic blues and greens - resulting from chemical interaction with the surrounding soil. Though once discarded waste, Roman glass slag has come to be appreciated today for its sculptural beauty! Size: 3.5" L x 1.5" W (8.9 cm x 3.8 cm)
