Description:

**Originally Listed At $300**

Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An ancient Roman silver lunate pendant, delicately shaped into the form of a crescent moon, a symbol of protection, fertility, and the divine feminine. Its smooth, curved arms taper to fine points, capturing the celestial elegance that so fascinated the Roman world. The upper edge rises to a small conical suspension loop, once allowing the pendant to hang gracefully against the wearer's chest or from a necklace among other amuletic charms. The crescent moon held deep resonance in Roman belief. It was associated with Luna, the goddess who illuminated the night and guarded travelers and women alike. Such pendants were often worn as talismans, thought to ward off evil forces and invoke the benevolent powers of the heavens. The use of silver - valued for its purity, luster, and lunar associations - further enhanced the pendant's symbolic potency. Size: 1.2" W x 0.9" H (3 cm x 2.3 cm); silver quality: 98.4%; weight: 1.7 grams

Lunate ornaments appear across the Roman Empire, from Britain to Syria, often discovered among personal adornments or votive deposits. Their enduring form links the cosmic with the personal, transforming a fragment of silver into an emblem of celestial protection and quiet devotion.
