Pre-Columbian, Caribbean, Taino, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A carved stone ceremonial yoke of an oval form, its smooth, weighty contours shaped from dense dark stone and mounted on a custom display base. Such yokes are closely associated with the ritual ballgame central to Taino society, where they functioned as powerful symbols of status and were displayed during public ceremonies. The form has also been linked to fertility and ancestral power, suggesting a deeper symbolic role beyond the court as an emblem of authority and sacred tradition. Size: 11.5" W x 20" H (29.2 cm x 50.8 cm); 21.75" H (55.2 cm) on included custom stand.
