Description:

Tibet, ca. 18th to 19th century. Tibet, 18th–19th century CE. A fine and well-matched pair of Tibetan hand prayer wheels (mani chor-khor) of complementary character and exceptional age, presented together on a custom metal base, both showing authentic signs of long devotional use. Mounted together on a custom metal base.

The first is an exquisite example featuring a bone wheel body mounted with a finely worked silver filigree cap set with coral and green stones, a lower silver cap, and richly decorated silver handle fittings on a hardwood handle — a luxurious object of considerable refinement that speaks to the wealth and devotional commitment of its original owner.

The second is an earlier and more austere copper wheel of commanding presence, fitted with a carved hardwood handle and displaying the rich patina of centuries of devoted ritual use. Size: 9”H x 5”W (22.9 x 12.7cm).

Provenance: Private American collection. Ex. fashion designer Mary McFadden collection, (1938-2024). Objects from the McFadden Collection have been exhibited at institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and numerous other distinguished museums across the United States and abroad.
