East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 16th to 17th century CE. A mold-made glazed pottery mingqi figure of a male servant, poised to serve in the afterlife. His hands are held together close to his chest, concealed beneath his sleeves. He wears a flat-topped cylindrical cap with a braided queue at the back. The outer robe is covered in a runny emerald-green glaze, with incised details enhancing the garment's texture. Mingqi refers to funerary objects placed in tombs during the Ming Dynasty, typically modeled to represent servants, attendants, or other figures who were believed to continue serving the deceased in the afterlife. Size: 1.5" W x 5.25" H (3.8 cm x 13.3 cm)
