United States, American Civil War era to WW II, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. A fascinating assemblage of military, personal, and advertising relics spanning from the US Civil War through WWII. Highlights include a Union eagle sword plate buckle of brass with a nickel-brass wash, and a brass plume holder finial decorated with an eagle device, reportedly recovered at Fort Craig, New Mexico, a key Civil War and Indian Wars post. Accompanying these is an eagle insignia plate, said to have been found near Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Two crossed rifles military insignia pins are also present. Of particular note is a U.S. Army WWII "Pro-Kit" prophylactic chemical packet, issued for venereal disease prevention, retaining its original contents and packaging. a tin of Winchester percussion caps, foil-lined by S.J. Goldmark, still containing caps. Size: 5.3" L x 1.75" W (13.5 cm x 4.4 cm)

Among the personal and utilitarian objects is a "Klip Klip" nail clipper with cleaner/file, manufactured in Rochester, NY, along with two cigar box opener/hammer tools - one marked "John Foege & Son Makers" and the other advertising "La Fendrich Cigars 5 cents / Charles Denby Cigars 5 cents." Also present is an unusual triangular iron-copper trade token, stamped "2 1/5 cents" on one side and "J.J. Keevile, 520 N. Stanton St., El Paso, Tex." on the reverse. Additional small goods include a S.A.F.F.A. Milano Populit matchbox with matches and a Bayer aspirin tin containing its original sealed 2-tablet packet (exp. 1990).

  • Condition: Expected wear consistent with age and varied use. The Civil War eagle buckle has some pitting and abrasion to the loop, and areas of patination. The plume finial has small losses to the crown tips and indentations, findsite written on surface. Creasing to prophylactic kit, but intact. Tears and creases to matchbox , minor oxidation, and age discoloration to metal objects. Overall, all pieces remain stable, with legible markings.
